INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY 2014BELLINGHAM CELEBRATES “PEACE ONE DAY” ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2014
This year’s annual event features The Upfront Theater, The Walrus, and Snug Harbor

There will be new twists when Bellingham commemorates the International Day of Peace this year on Sunday, September 21st. The United Nations established this day in 1982 as a worldwide 24-hour cease-fire to envision a world without violence and war.

The Whatcom Peace & Justice Center organizes the event locally and this year it will take place at the Majestic, 1027 North Forest Street.  The jam-packed, five-hour, family-friendly event starts at 5:00 pm with food trucks, informational tabling, and socializing followed by a peace-themed improvisational performance by The Upfront Theatre.

While the kids are entertained with planned activities, parents and others can enjoy the short program celebrating the year’s peaceful accomplishments and learning who this year’s recipient is for the Howard Harris Lifetime Peacemaker Award.  The evening carries on with dancing for all ages until 10:00 pm, starting with The Walrus followed by Snug Harbor.

5:00 – 6:30    Networking, info tables, food truck, music, kids’ activities
6:30 – 7:00    Upfront Theatre Improv Players
7:00 – 7:30    Program and presentation of the Howard Harris Lifetime Peacemaker Award
7:30 – 8:45   Dance with The Walrus
8:45 – 10:00  Dance with Snug Harbor

Entrance to the “Peace One Day” event is free and donations will be accepted at the door, and requested during the program to help support the work of the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center.
