IN CASE YOU’VE FORGOTTEN WHY WE’RE DOING THIS WORK

Let’s sing!!!! Let’s dance!!!!

We are about to pass the Anniversary of the Occupy Bellingham Camp Eviction which happened on December 28, 2011.  We will “celebrate” this anniversary at the Federal Building with cake (Let them eat cake)  at 4:00 pm during the peace vigil.

This tune just about says it all when we consider what the Occupy Movement was and still is about.

Enjoy.

A GREAT TUNE BY ROVICS

INFORMATION TABLE – INSIDE

We had a lot of fun this summer meeting passers by, working on banners, making buttons, planning actions.

Mark, Terry and others made this for the anniversary freeway banner drop

The Bellingham Library lawn made a good setting.  Average citizens walked by (we were there during the property tax payment period).  Judges and lawyers as well.  We were surprised how many people expressed support for the Occupy Movement and came over to talk.

We made new friends from Spokane Occupy (thanks to Marcia and Mark) who came over  to help with NO Coal actions  We ran into “Old” Occupy members and gained new members.

It became a time for catching up and getting to know each other and forming a vision.  Then it got cold, the leaves fell, the wind came in and rain came down so we thought  in order to continue this work we should find an indoor setting.

We will have our table at the Bellingham Cordata Food Co-op tomorrow (Friday, December 21 from 1:00 – 3:00).   Come to a GA at 5:30 at the public Market to find out how you can participate

DRONES: BOON OR BANE

Coming Thursday , December 20 at 5:00 PM at the Restore.  2309 Meridian Street, Bellingham  (Resources meeting room, above the Restore)

The  Whatcom County Greens will be hosting the first of three presentations on unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, and the problems posed by a proliferation of UAVs internationally, as well as in local skies. Major concerns of the presenters include the weaponized uses of drones by the US Defense Department and the CIA, resulting in a ruthless expansion of counterterrorism tactics at the expense of international law and ever mounting civilian casualties.

County organizers for the Greens believe that the time for activism and dialogue on drone manufacturing and extrajudicial execution applications is long overdue. Also missing from most discussions is recent Congressional legislation that directs the Federal Aviation to enable drones to fly throughout US airspace by September 2015, despite crowded skies and the threats this technology presents to aviation, as well as personal privacy and possible law enforcement misuse.

“The potential for abuse is vast,” warns Constitutional lawyer and writer Glenn Greenwald. “The escalation in surveillance they ensure is substantial, and the effect they have on the culture of personal privacy—having the state employ hovering, high-tech, stealth video cameras that invade homes and other private spaces—is simply creepy.”

Part One of the Whatcom Green Party drone series will include a video presentation, focusing on armed UAVs and drone warfare – killing by remote control – its repercussions and its blatant lack of political and domestic scrutiny.

A half-hour social time with appetizers will start at 5:00 PM, with the presentation running from 5:30 to 7.

MIKE CHECK by TEN

In case you couldn’t get to the video – here it is.

Prosecution of the Whatcom County Mic Check: The Odyssey Continues

Ten Young faces charges in the only Mic Check Prosecution in the country.  Right here in the City of Subdued Excitement.

Some 20-30 other individuals, many identifying with Occupy Bellingham, exercised their First Amendment Right to Free Speech at the Whatcom County Council Meeting on 02/28/1012 – doing so in an Open Public Speaking Forum.  Only Ten Young is presently being charged with a crime, ostensibly because he was the leader, spoke with a booming voice and appeared menacing – dressed all-in-black.  This despite the fact that the only crime committed was the assault upon one of two videographers seated in the press section, this assault being lead by the man pictured below.  This man, in a Letter to the Editor published in the Bellingham Herald on 03/08/2012, claimed those participating in Public Comment with “One Voice” of “actually being lawless thugs”.

Please attend the 9:00 AM hearing tomorrow in some courtroom on the 4th floor on the Whatcom County Courthouse, if at all possible.  Those of us there will be protesting Prosecutorial Misconduct, demanding the observance of our First Amendment Rights and expressing Solidarity with Ten Young.
