Post My thoughts on GA

I think we need to dedicate an entire week, maybe 2, to having GAs where we DON'T VOTE. Where we do open mic first. Maybe we don't even have a facilitator for the open mike who calls on people like we're in a classroom. People can just line up at the front of the room and talk. And then we can do announcements because lots of good things need to be announced. Then we can have discussions about issues that are important, but won't be voted on. Won't even be proposed. No official pre-proposal language, just "here's an idea i want to discuss".

In most of the reading I've done on Genral Assembly, Propsoals can come out of an open discussion of an "Issue". This sounds a bit like an open mike but can end up with a proposal coming forth. I like your idea, this could be a time to introduce new folks there for first time. Maybe even do an exercise of some sort - long newsprint roll pasted on wall with sticky notes to atache with a theme such as "Strategy" "Civiel Disobedience - what does it mean?"
Let's try to have at least one meeteing a month at WECU . the venue was terrific, though a little warm.

I think we can try this, and see how it works, and if a proposal comes out of a discussion and the group is happy with it, we'd go forward, but if it's not so popular and may lead to arguments, hopefully in the interest of community building the proposer would be willing to wait for a different GA.

I agree about using the WECU once a month. FREE and we can be there for 5 hours? You can't get better than that. We do need to find a place for this upcoming Friday.

I'd mentioned on a facebook occupy page replying to this same concept that soapboxing, publicly all over town might be an effective means of getting people excited. If we rally our most boisterous public speakers and give them consistent topics to address, those who don't sit on the internet for waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too long throughout the day (Am I looking in a mirror or what?) might get excited enough to participate in this global Human Rights Movement.

I feel that Erin may have a sound idea. The suspension of process for a week might be helpful by way of allowing us all to step back and run damage control.

I agree wholeheartedly with this plan. I think, at the very least, it'll allow us to communicate amongst ourselves and figure out what everyone thinks about our direction as a group and common goals, how we want to structure (and hopefully restructure) GA, give us a chance to get to know each other again (i really do think a lot of us have changed as individuals since this all began), and come up with some ideas without having to force them to a vote or suppress them quickly. a week or two long brainstorming and healing period could really do the group some good.

I will put this on the agenda for facilitation WG. Maybe when we get WECU again would be a good time as there are tables that would lend to small group discussion, etc.
