Post Decolonization

I realize I've kind of dropped the ball on getting this out there to people. I apologize for not being more active lately, but quite frankly, I feel as if there's been a significant opposition to what I do, both consciously and unconsciously on the part of a lot of people. I understand that more often than not, people are acting under the guidance of their own good will. That's fantastic. However, if you follow the links below and give them the time they deserve, you may come to a clearer understanding of how our best intentions can be seriously compromising to the efforts and hard work of other people. I'm doing my best to seek a richer understanding of other human beings. I ask that others do the same. Thanks to you all.

So, these are good places to start. I will send out more to those who're interested as we come across the info. As I was saying above, I'm kind of worn out. I do a lot of different things behind the scenes and I know some of you are aware of my activities. I'm not exactly an open book. I don't feel the need to be. When push comes to shove, I won't share all of my thoughts on things, though I do share quite a bit. To put it another way, DeColonize Whatcom (formerly ReOccupy) isn't Occupy. The actions I've involved myself with personally were done in Solidarity with Decolonization Movements and Occupy. As such, actions to co-opt DeColonize Whatcom (even speaking in some way on our behalf) is NOT welcome. We do not follow Occupy Bellingham's rules because we inherently disagree with them in their entirety, however, that is not to say that we won't respect them during meetings and discussions. I will continue to act in Solidarity with both movements, but will not hesitate to voice my perspective as an indigenous American at all such gatherings. I know you're good people, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Our actions, collectively, can affect a constructive change for all our communities.

Read all the articles you suggested and a couple more. Lesson learned. Thank you.

What now? Do you have an idea of where to take this?

It seems a bit idealistic that #OWS would change the brand that is now used throughout the world. Yes - it's truly sad and an example of poor long term thinking to have made the choice of words in the first place - but these leaders (adbusters, et. al.) were probably thinking about Zucotti Park (Wall Street) at the time and not Vancouver, BC.

All the more reason to have a Safer Spaces agreement. So we can think about what we're doing and how it will impact others.

movements are all about progress, change, and change, and more change.

if we've cycled away from ONE name that in the end is good as groups find autonomy and voice... then name themselves.... own who and what they are, and act.

I subscribe to decolonizing. occupy and occupation is no longer something I find fair, equal or freedom loving.

I was never intending to "change the brand". I had started DeCW purely as a means of standing in solidarity with the movement at large. Networking is an effective means of meeting the challenges faced by the current resistance.

I know this as a fact and I can't wait to read this article because I really don't know many details about this first nation. It should be posted to our web page as we create our mission so we can tell people what we mean by participatory democracy.
