Food Security:
A Democratic Popular Education Symposium

What: This is a day to experience democratic education while learning
about your community’s involvement in food justice. Participate in learning how
to engage in democratic process and popular education, and experience local
poetry, music, and art!
Who: The keynote speaker will be Dr. Nandini Gunewardena, food justice
author, advocate, and educator. With her will be WWU alumni, faculty, and
students, Community to Community, the Puget Sound Fishing Alliance, and
many more local organizations! The event is sponsored by WWU’s Woodring
College of Education, Dept. of Human Services and Rehabilitation Counseling.
Where: Bellingham Technical College – Multipurpose Room and Cafeteria.
Why: The end of the symposium will be an opportunity to develop the goals
and structure of a new popular education center, in the tradition of the
Highlander folk school of Tennessee.
Extras: This event will be a potluck and be in an atmosphere of
community with music and art. For the potluck please bring your own dish to
share with food justice in mind, according to your last name:

T‐Z bring Salad
