Post RALLY TO STOP FOSSIL FUEL EXTRACTION

This post is an effort to keep up with the changes and opportunities Herb G. is creating for us who author on this site. I linked Sunday's rally to this post in order to have a conversation about this event.

1. Is it necessary for Occupy Bellingham to participate?
2. Does this further the mission and vision of Occupy Bellingham?
3. Is posting to the front page a good way to reach people to engage them to participate?
4. Who all wants to be on the bus?
5. Who is going on their own?

From Washington State to Washington, D.C., join thousands across the nation in stopping the export of dirty and dangerous fossil fuels. Washington is currently under threat from proposals by Big Coal to ship over 100 million tons of coal through our communities, but there are dirty and dangerous export proposals across the US.

As thousands march in Washington, D.C. for the 350 Presidents Day Weekend Keystone XL March on the White House, show your support here in Seattle and join in on our first ever “Walking Train Against Coal Trains” march.

Show your support for better vision for Washington and America, say yes to clean jobs and no to fossil fuel exports!

Occupy Bellingham will be organizing carpooling to this event. If there is enough interest, we may even get a bus. Please call Debbie 920-0981 if you are interested and could pay $20 for a bus. We need to know by Wednesday the 13th.

See the calendar for specific details about this event in Seattle

Forward on Climate will only be the largest climate rally in history and put enough pressure on our leaders if every single person who can make it turns out

Personally, I am not going to contribute to my carbon footprint by burning through any fossil fuel to facilitate getting to an out-of-town event to protest the problem that increased carbon footprints are causing our Earth and call for the end to the fossil fuel extraction/export/combustion era.

My view is that we should rethink this entire concept and come up with a local alternative action/event in Solidarity with the DC Action. I like freeway bannering, and I think we have time to do something like that - creating high visiblity - all without engaging in the obvious hypocrisy of the alternative plan under consideration.

Indeed there are some contradictions existing in the way we live in the world today, especially for those of us who seek a new way forward.

You can use name calling if you wish but really we are all doing the best we can. Where have you been for the past week while OCCUPY BELLINGHAM was thinking through an appropriate action?

I believe it is important to show our President what people are thinking. Whatever you do here in Bellingham take photos and find a way to get the message to Obama. I look forward to hearing about it.

Indeed there are some contractions...

If you meant "contradictions", then I agree with you.

You can use name calling if you wish but really we are all doing the best we can.

Name calling?

Where have you been for the past week while OCCUPY BELLINGHAM was thinking through an appropriate action?

Among other things *, I have been philosophizing on the subject of how much critical thinking is actually involved in deciding to default to participating in someone elses Action or Event, despite the contradictions entailed that make this default participation "inappropriate" within the context of the goal of the Event.

My conclusion - that it is abundantly evident that appropriate local action alternatives are NOT going to arise from the thinking of #OBGA this past week - is that my calling is to promote alternatives to what you refer to as "doing the best we can".

* I have logged many, many hours this past week learning and implementing concepts to apply to the goal of energizing #OBGA's Web Presence.
